Bonobo

Although once regarded as a subspecies of the chimpanzee, the bonobo has since 1933 been classified as a species in its own right, with equal status to the chimpanzee in the genus known scientifically as Pan – with no common name. (See Britannica.com).

When asked this question, my team – although we knew that the bonobo is closely related to the chimpanzee – was unable to answer it because we didn't know the name of the genus.

Had we known that the question setter knew even less than we did, we could have answered "chimpanzee" – which the other team did, when it was passed over, for a bonus point.
